	Dieser Wagen existiert nur als Modell und wurde leider nie im Original produziert. Der Vauxhall Guildsman wurde als Entwurf von Phil Gannon aus England beim Vauxhall Design Wettbewerb 1968/69 eingereicht und von Lesney aus den Tausenden von Vorschlägen als Modell realisiert. This car only exists as a model and was unfortunately never put into production. The Vauxhall Guildsman was submitted as a draft to the Vauxhall design contest in 1968/69 by Phil Gannon from UK and Lesney realized this model as the only one out of thousands.

1970 - Wechsel des Matchbox-Sortiments

1970 musste Lesney das Sortiment seiner Marke Matchbox grundlegend ändern, um mit dem Mitbewerber Mattel und seiner Serie ‘Hot Wheels’ konkurrieren zu können.

Neue Modelle, auch Fantasiemodelle, wurden angeboten. So wurden 1971 der neuen Serie ‘Superfast’ auch drei Modelle von Konzept-Autos hinzugefügt: Der Mazda RX500 (Nr. 66b), der Alfa Carabo (Nr. 75b) und der Vauxhall Guildsman (Nr. 40a).

1970 - Change of the Matchbox Series

In 1970 Lesney was forced to change the range of their Matchbox cars fundamentally to compete with the competitor Mattel and its series ‘Hot Wheels’.

Neu models, also fantasy models were offered. In 1971 three models of concept cars were added to the new series ‘Superfast: The Mazda RX500 (No. 66b), the Alfa Carabo (No. 75b), and the Vauxhall Guildsman (No. 40a).

Die Idee von Phil Gannon

In den Jahren 1965 bis 1970 veranstaltete Vauxhall einen Wettbewerb, bei dem Auto-Designs eingereicht werden konnten. Phil Gannon aus England reichte seinen Entwurf des Vauxhall Guildsman dreimal ein. Beim ersten Mal erlangte er einen Platz unter den ersten 25, beim zweiten Mal den vierten Platz und schliesslich beim dritten Mal den dritten Platz.

Lesney hat aus den Tausenden von Einreichungen den Entwurf von Phil Gannon ausgewählt, um daraus ein Modell zu entwickeln.

Leider hat Vauxhall den Entwurf nicht übernommen und in Produktion gebracht.

The Idea of Phil Gannon

During the years 1965 to 1970 Vauxhall sponsored a automobile design contest. Phil Gannon from UK submitted his design of the Vauxhall Guildsman three times. At the first time he was successful at the top 25, the second time at 4th place and eventually the third time at 3rd place.

Lesney selected Phil Gannon’s design from thoussands of designs submitted and realized it as a model car.

Unfortunately Vauxhall did not put the draft in production.

Die Farbe kam nicht an

Unglücklicherweise lackierte Lesney das Modell in rosa, was bei den Jungen nicht gut ankam. Später änderte Lesney die Farbe in rot, aber der Vauxhall Guildsman wurde nie zu einem der bevorzugten Modelle der Kinder.

The wrong color

Unfortunately Lesney decided to paint the model in pink which was not very poular with the llittle boys. Later Lesney changed the color to red, but the Vauxhall Guildsman never becam e favorite among the children.
